Angelfish

Angelfish

This web blog is dedicated entirely to the Cichlid fish species called Angelfish, which is a typical aquarium fish you probably have seen many times before. The Angelfish is very common and is a beautiful tropical fish. In my research I've learned that there are different species of the Anglefish, which are the following:
  • Pterophyllum scalare (common)
  • Pterophyllum eimekei (variety of the scalare)
  • Pterophyllum dumerilii (rare)
  • Pterophyllum altum (rare, but beautiful)

The Angelfish - Pterophyllum scalare

The Pterophyllum scalare is a very common aquarium fish and is a beautyfull species. The scalare has a unique shape and amazing colours. The scalare in the fish tanks, are considered to be different from the ones living free in their natural waters. The scalare and eimekei looks and is practically counted for as the same, and may be for the most considered as a variety of Pterophyllum scalare. The Pterophyllum scalare can be found in their natural environment in south America.

The Angelfish - Pterophyllum dumerilii

The Pterophyllum dumerilii is a very rare Angelfish species. I'm not exactly certain how popular it is in the regular aquariums for the aquarium hobbyists. The dumerilii is not considered to be the most beautiful of the angels, but all Angelfish has a resemblance. The Pterophyllum dumerilii can be found in their natural environment in south America.

The Angelfish - Pterophyllum altum

The Pterophyllum altum is a rare Angelfish species, but is quite beautiful, and may get bigger then a fist. The altum looks very much like the scalare in form and shape, especially the young ones. As it grows you can easily see the difference. Usually aquarium stores do not have them, so they may be more difficult to get. This species of Angelfish is not for the aquarium beginners, and are probably considered to be the most beautiful of the Angelfish. The Pterophyllum altum can be found in their natural environment in south America.

The Angelfish

The Angelfish is a freshwater fish and a sub species of the Cichlid family. The Cichlid family of tropical fishes, it is one of the largest fish familys in the world, most of them are freshwater fish. Origins of the Angelfish species is the Amazon river in south America. The Angelfish species may be aggressive towards other tropical fish species within the fish tanks. So make sure if you are buying other types of tropical fish, that they get along in their environment. Aquarium stores usually know about which aquarium fish to place in the same fish tanks, so pick out your tropical fish wisely. There are also many other cichlid fish species to check out.
